A Clearwater man is among those injured in a car accident that closed a section of US 19 in Palm Harbor for two hours Thursday.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that injured a Tarpon Springs Police officer and two others.

Tarpon Springs Police Officer Jose L. Yourgules, 45, was driving his cruiser north on U.S. 19 near Nebraska Avenue when a 2003 GMC Envoy heading south ran a red light and turned left into the path of the cruiser at around 3:45 p.m., according to investigators.

The police cruiser hit the Envoy causing the SUV to roll over and land on its roof in the intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Two people were inside the Envoy.

Monica E. McClure, 44, of Crystal Beach was driving. She in serious condition and was taken by Bayflite to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

The passenger, Marcus Hunter, 26, of Clearwater suffered minor injuries and was taken to Mease-Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor.
