Yes, when a doctor is going to perform a procedure or give a certain course of treatment to any patient, because patients have not been educated medically, in order to make decisions whether we want to do what’s being recommended or not, we have to have the medicine explained to us, so the law recognizes that a doctor must give what’s called “adequate informed consent,” meaning that the patient has been properly educated in order to make a decision whether to accept the projected treatment or reject it.
