If you are injured in an accident and the person who caused the accident does not have insurance, you have a couple of alternatives. The first and best alternative is to make an uninsured motorist claim against your coverage if you have such coverage. Even if you don’t have that type of coverage but may live with someone who’s a family member who has that coverage, you still may be able to make a claim under that family member’s policy. The second alternative, which is not the best alternative, is to file a claim directly against the person who caused the accident, hoping that if and when you prevail in your case, you’d be able to collect money from any assets that person may own.
