One of the frequent issues that happens when someone is in a car accident and there’s limited coverage on the other side is that the person may need treatment over an extended period of time. If that’s the case, the medical bills could run into hundreds, even thousands of dollars in excess of what the policy limits are on the other side. It’s often a major problem when we try to settle a case because in Florida, if you’ve gone to a hospital and receive a large hospital bill, there would be a lean on the proceeds we receive from your case. Therefore, as an example, if you had a $50,000 policy and sustained $100,000 in bills, which was still remaining after any other insurance paid, it would be very, very difficult to get your case settled for any type of reasonable amount of money. Therefore, we do advise people, if they’re injured and there’s a minimal policy on the other side to please be aware of it and don’t run up any unnecessary medical bills.
